The aragonite or stone Aragonite can be found in crystal form, in the depths of the hot water in a solid composition of calcium carbonate. This crystal is found in caves in the form of stalactites or stalagmites, however, they are also found in coral reefs, in the shells of some mollusks, in the shells of turtle eggs and in the inner ear of fish.
This stone is also called, the rock of conservation since its vibrations will allow the person to be more aware of the care they must take towards nature and the environment.
The first character to speak of the Aragonite was Joseph Torrubia, who in his work “Apparatus for Spanish Natural History” published in 1754, speaks for the first time of rock. However, the name of Aragonite is due to the discovery made by the German mineralogist Abragam Gottlob Werner, in the year 1788, specifically in the town of Molina de Aragón in Guadalajara Spain.
During the 20th century, the geologist Pedro Castro Barea wrote that this stone should be considered purely Spanish, since its main site was in this country. It should be noted that Spain was the first country to collect the first specimens of this stone, and at the same time they were in charge of exhibiting them in all the museums in Europe.
This mineral is the formation of calcium carbonate crystals, its chemical formula is the same as that of Calcite, CaCO3, Aragonite and calcite are minerals belonging to the polymorphic classification of carbonates, that is, they are minerals that have the same chemical composition but with a different crystal structure.
The aragonite crystallized simple rhomboidal prisms, or multiple form of hexagonal prisms. While calcite crystallizes in the rhombohedral or trigonal system.
Characteristics of Aragonite
- The name Aragonita comes from the town of Molina de Aragón, a Spanish city located in the province of Guadalajara, Spain. In this place the mineral was discovered.
- This stone presents instability before the environmental conditions.
- It is a rock that has several varieties, and all are highly appreciated by collectors.
- The Aragonite may occur in crystals elongated, acicular, crystals in clusters or other shaped pseudohexagonal. There are also small spherical formations, in the form of peas or peas, columnar, stalactitic and stalagmitic.

- Those Aragonite crystals that are anchored to corals are called coraloids or iron flower.
- The chemical composition of Aragonite is CaCO3, it is identical to that of Calcite, its only difference is its crystalline structure.
- Aragonite comes in yellow, green, blue, brown, and of course almost colorless white. Its coloration depends on the presence of other chemical elements.

Despite being soluble in water, in the depths of islands such as the Bahamas, we can find large deposits of Aragonite.
Uses of Aragonite
- This crystal is used as an ornament due to its high solubility in contact with water. Thanks to its showy appearance this rock manages to grab looks.
- In gemotherapy it is used as a calming stone.
- This rock is capable of calming ailment, it also helps to relax the body.
- Placing one of these rocks under the pillow or near the bed will allow quick sleep reconciliation.
- It can be used as an accessory, such as: bracelets, earrings, necklaces, rings or simply carried in your pocket in order to keep positive thoughts.
How to clean the Aragonite?
It is a water soluble stone, therefore, your contact with it should be limited. These crystals do not require deep cleaning, they can be placed under the cold water tap for a short time, or rinsed with a little sea salt. Finally, excess water should be removed with a piece of absorbent cloth and the stone must be placed in a safe place.
Curiosities of the Aragonite
· This stone is used to perform rituals, it should only be placed inside the hands and squeezed to deepen the meditation, the body must be relaxed so that the negative energies are purified.
· Because this stone was found in iron deposits, miners used to call it “iron flower”.
· In Slovakia there is a cave formed by Aragonite, its name is Ochtinská, it should be noted that this cave was declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco.
· The zodiacal signs combatible with this stone are: Taurus, Virgo and Leo.
· The Aragonite elixir was used to calm pain in the entire body. You should only place the stone in a tub and then immerse the body in it.
Placing this mineral under the pillow helps calm anxiety.

When she found out, she cried and cried until her tears solidified with a strange hardness. It is said that this is how the Aragonite was born, as a symbol of pure and sincere love.
· This stone was described as the first case of polymorphism.
· It is part of mollusks, corals and cephalopods.
Aragonite is classified as calcium carbonate, however, this stone has other varieties. The iron flower or Aragonite appears in iron mines with a whitish color, similar to that of a coral.
· Mossottite : This stone is named after the Italian researcher Mosotti, this variety is rich in strontium, distinguished by its striking blue color and stringy appearance.
- Tarnowitzite : this name comes from a Polish locality. This crystal is rich in lead atoms.
- Nicholsonite : it is a rare variety of Aragonites rich in zinc.
- The main difference is that they have different crystal structures.
- The level of water solubility of calcite is much higher than that of Aragonite.
- The Aragonite is more susceptible to erosions.
- Calcite stone is more easily found than aragonite since the former is a more stable mineral.
- Chemically, the Aragonite crystal is incapable, that is, it does not contribute to the formation of other crystals.
